Bedroom With Curved Wall
Designing a funky shaped bedroom can be a challenge. Beds are big can leave little to no space for anything else in a small room. A curved bedroom wall can make it tough to get the most out of a space and still ensure that it feels serene and relaxing, like a bedroom should.
That's why we're exploring two different ways to tackle the oddly-shaped bedroom. It can be an exciting challenge that forces you to get creative with a small bedroom layout! Check out these two layout ideas for designing a curved bedroom that's functional, comfy and stylish.
The Space: An 8 x 17 awkwardly-shaped bedroom with a curved wall.
The Style: Colorful and eclectic
The Challenge: Designing a small, oddly-shaped bedroom with a curved wall to fit essential furniture items without making the space feel cramped or claustrophobic.
Idea #1: Simple, Solo Living
Layout Idea #1 prioritizes space and comfort. The bed is placed along the wall in front of the curved corner to allow room for a queen-sized option. This means you'll have plenty of room to stretch out and luxuriate. Plus, it is the best placement to enjoy the view out the window from the bed.
The setup is all about making the space feel open and uncluttered with an angled rug, easy use of tight space, and minimalist decor. Furnishings help maintain a sense of openness in the space and a well-placed mirror helps make the room seem even bigger.
Why This Bedroom Layout Works
Placing the bed against the curved wall means you can fit a queen bed for maximum relaxation and rest. The bed also gets a stellar view right out the window and this placement leaves room for a nightstand on one side.
In the back corner behind the bed, we filled in the awkward space left by the curved wall with a plant. We used a faux option because watering back in that tight space would be difficult. But this way you get all the looks and lightness of plant life without the maintenance.
The dresser at the foot of the bed makes perfect use of that skinny strip of wall space. A tall dresser is great for smaller spaces as you can get more storage vertically without taking up valuable floor space.
And the angled rug under the bed offers more floor coverage for bare feet and takes attention away from the awkward shape of the room. The mirror visually opens up the small room and makes it seem bigger and also has posts on top for hanging towels, purses, etc.
This Is Great If You…
- Are a young adult living solo.
- Prefer simple, uncluttered spaces.
- Love to daydream and watch the world outside from your bed.
- Want a bedroom that's purely a space for resting and relaxing.
Idea #2: Extra Functionality
Layout #2 aims to pack in as much function as possible into the oddly-shaped bedroom. But we also wanted to make sure it didn't feel cluttered or overcrowded. You still want a space where you can feel peaceful and relaxed, so it's all about finding balance.
This layout option expands the functionality of the small room with extra storage and a mini desk. We swapped in a twin bed to this design, which allows for more open floor space and incorporated other furnishings that would help maximize functionality without overtaking the room.
Why This Bedroom Layout Works
The twin bed in this design leaves more open floor space to play with so our layout choices aren't so limited. This is a trundle option, which is great for a kiddo's room if they like to have sleepovers. You could also do a bed with storage underneath instead.
To maximize space and functionality along the curved wall, we placed a mini desk setup. This creates a great spot to do homework, read a book and enjoy the view outside the window. Having the desk pulled away from the wall a bit is okay because you can use the space in the curved corner to house a trash can or even put a footrest for a more comfortable workspace.
The wall-mounted bookcase also expands available storage space by using the wall vertically instead of taking up further floor space. To give the room a super cozy vibe, we layered rugs for extra coverage and use dark wall paint for an intimate and relaxing feel.
This Is Great If You…
- Need a workspace at home and don't have room elsewhere in the house.
- Like a cozy space where everything you need is in reach.
- Want a comfy, sleepover-ready bedroom for a kiddo.
- Need extra storage in a bedroom.
- Want to have a guest area that's equipped with everything they'll need!
